The Government of India has introduced the Voluntary Vehicle-Fleet Modernization Program (VVMP), a transformative initiative aimed at phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles. This policy, endorsed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, seeks to promote the use of fitter automobiles on Indian roads, thereby enhancing safety and reducing environmental pollution. Transport Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari emphasizes that scrapping end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) can lead to a 15-20% reduction in vehicular emissions. Owners who choose to scrap their old vehicles receive a scrap value of approximately 4-6% of the ex-showroom price of a new vehicle. Additionally, draft rules have been notified for state governments to offer concessions on motor vehicle tax and waive registration fees for the purchase of new vehicles against a certificate of deposit. Auto Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have also been advised to provide a 5% discount on the purchase of new vehicles against the certificate of deposit. Press Information Bureau
